Kivu was commissioned by FCDO to carry out a Political Economy Analysis on climate change issues in Zambia – specifically agriculture, deforestation and the energy sector. Kivu worked with IAPRI, the leading agricultural think tank in Zambia, to understand the technical and political nature of the policy issues through a series of interviews with key stakeholders from government, the private sector and the international community. Kivu’s approach involved assessing and analysing the political context around each issue and around each potential reform option, including who the key decision makers and influencers are on each issue, who the potential blockers and champions of reform are, and government perceptions of different issues.

Key Impacts:
  • Increased understanding within Kivu of climate change and related issues
  • Analysis and recommendations used to inform FCDO Zambia approach to policy influencing on climate change and future potential FCDO climate change programming
