The Building Community Engagement Programme (BCEP) supports civil society organisations, churches, the media and local community groups to engage effectively with national and sub-national government.

Kivu is a fully integrated part of BCEP. In addition to providing strategic advice across the programme, Kivu leads work on building coalitions for change. In the programme’s first phase Kivu’s role has been to identify issues with potential for change and to develop politically informed influencing strategies. Core local partners include a leading think tank, a faith-based organisation and a leading accountability-focused partner. As BCEP progresses it will build influential coalitions around salient issues at the national and sub-national levels.

Key Impacts:
  • Politically informed issue selection which identified policy issues with potential policy-maker demand – increasing potential for impact.
  • Development of strong partnerships with a range of local PNG partners.
  • Valued advice for BCEP on developing effective influencing strategies, including on the entrenched problem of gender-based violence in PNG
