Rob Jenkins is currently based full time in Zambia supporting Kivu’s local partners to build their policy influencing skills, develop policy-relevant and politically savvy research and to plan advocacy activities around this. Prior to joining Kivu Rob worked as a senior policy advisor in HM Treasury for eight years. He has also spent time teaching in Ethiopia and coaching cricket in Namibia.
During his eight years as a civil servant Rob worked on a range of policy issues including welfare, the labour market and education, providing strategic advice on policy development and delivery to the Chancellor, No. 10 and other ministers in the UK government. He has worked closely with a number of government departments and central delivery agencies (for example the Implementation Unit and Major Projects Authority) to monitor the effectiveness of existing policies and he has worked with external stakeholders (including think tanks, charities and academics) to develop new policy proposals. This background has given Rob extensive experience of using politically-informed research and analysis to build a persuasive case to support new policies, as well as the wide ranging internal and external advocacy skills needed to achieve lasting policy change.
